More than 400 bird species have been recorded within a day's birding of Abberton, including some of Australia's scarcest birds.
At Abberton itself, our 209 recorded species include 19 different birds of prey and 9 species of cuckoo,
(including the rare hepatic phase Oriental Cuckoo), as well as Glossy, Yellow-tailed and Red-tailed Black Cockatoos
and occasional one-offs such as Painted Snipe, and Black Honeyeater.
Our many nesting birds include Rainbow
Bee-eater, Sacred Kingfisher, Azure
Kingfisher, Pacific Baza, Speckled Warbler,
White-winged Triller - more than 30 species have nested here.
And there are other special birds which have been identified nearby, but which haven't got onto the Abberton list yet,
such as Red-backed Kingfisher, Red Goshawk, Black-necked Stork, or Red-necked Avocet.
